Vine leaves crowd the left and centre in green, coral and rust, drawn in quick looping marks that gather and overlap. At the right edge, the growth thins into bare contour against pale blue. The same leaves are reduced from mass to line, recalling the way a vineyard reads when viewed upwards against the sky.
Aida Mahmudova is an established Azerbaijani artist whose landscapes and semi-abstract paintings have been exhibited internationally. Her work often draws on landscape, memory and place, using a soft, earthy palette. The design for this blanket is based on Mahmudova’s painting Vineyard, translated into cotton jacquard and produced by CHELEBI in a limited edition.
