Qonşular
jacquard tapestry weave
Peach-washed stucco fills the whole field, and set into it a run of windows that agree on nothing: dark shutters closed tight, a green balcony rail, a window box spilling over, a pale frame with the glass thrown open. One wall, one household after another. The title is Azerbaijani for Neighbors, and you can read the whole street off a single facade.
Aida Mahmudova is an established Azerbaijani artist whose landscapes and semi-abstract canvases have been exhibited internationally. She paints fluid landscapes, memories, and spaces using a soft, earthly palette. This blanket, produced by CHELEBI, translates her painting Qonşular, meaning neighbour, into cotton jacquard and is released in a limited edition.
Size: 71 × 51 inches
Material: 100% cotton
